Why a scar gel with sunscreen

New scars can darken with sun exposure. Silagen designed this gel to pair silicone scar care with zinc oxide, a mineral sunscreen, and states it contains no chemical sunscreens.

It is aimed at visible, exposed areas — face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Silagen also offers a “Day & Night” pairing: SPF gel during daylight hours and Pure gel at night.

One important distinction: a scar-care routine and a sunscreen routine are not the same thing. Sunscreen has its own application and reapplication directions in its Drug Facts. Applying scar gel twice a day does not, by itself, mean you are protected all day.

A daytime routine to discuss

  1. Confirm clearance

Use it only once your surgeon confirms the incision is fully closed and you can begin scar care.

  2. Apply a thin layer

Clean, dry skin; a small amount spread evenly over the scar; let it dry before clothing or makeup.

  3. Reapply for sun, as labeled

Sunscreen reapplication follows the Drug Facts — especially after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

  4. Night routine, if suggested

If your surgeon suggests the Day & Night approach, Pure gel is the overnight step. Never layer gel under sheets.
