Pure Silicone Gel

A clear, quick-drying silicone gel for closed scars. It suits places where a sheet is hard to keep on — and can be worn under makeup or clothing once dry.

  • 100% medical-grade silicone
  • 15 g and 30 g bottles
  • Dries in about 1–2 minutes

What it is

Silagen describes Pure as a 100% medical-grade silicone gel with a silky feel that leaves no sticky residue. You spread a very thin layer over a scar that has fully closed; it dries into a light, breathable film.

Silicone gels are thought to work by covering the scar (occlusion) and keeping its surface hydrated. Silagen states this helps a scar stay flatter, softer and less red. Results differ from person to person, and the manufacturer’s statements are not a promise of a particular result.

The gel is a practical choice for faces, necks, joints, hands and other curved or moving areas where an adhesive sheet may lift. Your surgeon may also suggest it alongside sheeting, used at different times of the day.

How often: two Silagen sources, two routines

Applying the gel

  1. Wash and dry

Clean the scar and pat it completely dry. It should be free of creams, lotions, ointments and powders.

  2. Use very little

A small amount covers more than you expect. Spread a thin, even layer over the whole scar and gently massage.

  3. Let it dry

Wait about 1–2 minutes. Once dry, makeup, sunscreen, clothing or compression garments can go over it.

  4. Keep it separate from sheets

Never put gel (or any cream) under Silagen sheets, strips or shapes — they will stop sticking. Use one product at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Pure gel and silicone sheets together?

Not at the same time. Silagen suggests some people use sheeting for part of the day and gel for the rest, but gel under a sheet stops it sticking. Ask your surgeon whether a combined routine suits your scar.

Source: Silagen frequently asked questions (opens in a new tab)

Can I wear makeup or sunscreen over it?

Yes, once the gel has dried (about 1–2 minutes), according to Silagen’s directions. For daytime sun protection on an exposed scar, ask about the separate Gel + SPF 30.

Source: Silagen Gel instructions for use (opens in a new tab)

How many bottles will I need?

It depends on scar length and how long you use it. Silagen’s FAQ estimates one 15 g size for a scar up to 3 inches over 3 months, and more for longer scars or multiple incisions.

Source: Silagen frequently asked questions (opens in a new tab)

Does it work on older scars?

Silagen states silicone can improve some older red or raised scars, while noting earlier use generally gives better expected results. Ask your surgeon what is realistic for your scar.

What if my skin gets irritated?

Stop using it and contact your surgical team. Silagen advises against use on rashes, irritated, cracked or open skin.
