Scar care after breast lift or reduction

Lifts and reductions often leave a combination of scars — around the areola, down the front of the breast and sometimes along the crease. Silagen makes shapes for each pattern.

  • Areola, lollipop or anchor
  • Pre-cut breast shapes

Incision patterns and matching shapes

Your surgeon will tell you which pattern you have. Silagen’s shapes are designed to match these patterns.

  1. Around the areola (periareolar)

Where: A circle around the areola edge

Formats to ask about: Areola circle shapes — a pair of rings with a nipple opening.

  2. Lollipop (vertical)

Where: Around the areola plus a vertical line down to the crease

Formats to ask about: Lollipop shapes, 2⅞″ × 6½″, sold in pairs.

  3. Anchor (inverted-T)

Where: Areola, vertical line and a horizontal line in the crease

Formats to ask about: Anchor shapes, or the breast kit (2 circles + 2 anchors). The vertical tab can be trimmed for crease-only scars.

Practical considerations

The T-junction

Where the vertical and crease scars meet is often the slowest area to close. Scar care begins only when every part of the incision is closed — ask your surgeon to check this spot.

Wearing shapes under a support bra

Shapes are thin and may sit under a soft bra once your surgeon allows it. If the bra edge lifts the shape, ask about trimming or medical tape.

Sheets and gel on the same day

Silagen describes using sheeting for part of the day and gel for the rest — never both at once, and never gel under a sheet.

Questions to ask your surgeon

  • Which incision pattern did I have?
  • Which Silagen shape — or strips — would you use for it?
  • When will you confirm the T-junction is closed?
  • How many hours a day should I wear the shapes?
  • Can I use gel at night instead?
  • When should we review the scars together?

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the breast kit or separate shapes?

The kit contains two areola circles and two anchors for full anchor-pattern scars. Lollipop or areola-only patterns may suit separate shapes. Ask your surgeon.

Can I trim the anchor shape?

Yes. Silagen notes the vertical tab can be cut off for crease-only scars.

Are these the same examples as augmentation?

No. Lift and reduction create longer, combined incisions; these examples are kept separate from augmentation.

How long does each shape last?

Like other Silagen sheeting, about 3–4 weeks with gentle washing, then replace.

Is breast reduction scar care different for men?

Silagen lists areola circles for gynecomastia and the breast kit for top surgery. Your surgeon will advise on your pattern.
