Applying gel

  1. Clean and dry

Wash and dry the scar before every application. No creams, lotions, ointments or powders.

  2. Thin layer

A very small amount, spread to cover the scar, gently massaged.

  3. Dry time

About 1–2 minutes. Then clothing, cosmetics, sunscreen or bandages can go over it.

  4. Repeat as directed

Website: two to three times daily, and after bathing, swimming or exercise. Instruction sheet: twice daily. Follow your surgeon’s version.

Applying sheets, strips and shapes

  1. Clean skin, nothing underneath

Wash and dry. No creams, lotions, ointments, perfume or gel.

  2. Size it

Trim so it extends at least ½ inch (1 cm) beyond the scar.

  3. Apply

Peel off the liner; adhesive side down. Tape, a pressure garment or sleeve can secure it.

  4. Wear and check

10–16 hours a day. Remove about every 12 hours to inspect, wash and dry the scar. Off for showers, swimming and exercise.

If your skin is sensitive

  1. Gel: test patch

Apply to a small area for 1–2 days. If no rash or irritation, treat the whole scar.

  2. Sheets: build up

Start at 4 hours a day for 4 days, checking often. If no significant irritation, add 2 hours a day.

  3. Stop if it reacts

Remove the product and contact your care team for rash, increasing redness or broken skin.

  2. Gentle wash

Tap water and mild hand soap, or Silagen’s foaming cleanser for silicone.

  3. Air-dry

Rinse well and let it dry before reapplying.
