Enzymes & botanicals

Learn about enzymes and plant extracts in HSL products.

Understanding the ingredients

Bromelain is an enzyme from pineapple; papain is associated with papaya. Protease is a type of enzyme. Enzyme activity and ingredient weight are different measurements.

Protein Synergy contains a pancreatin-derived protease blend, bromelain and papain. Post-Injectable Capsules contain bromelain, a diosmin-hesperidin blend, rutin and other ingredients.

Centella, boswellia, horse chestnut and grape seed are plant ingredients found in different formulas. A standardized extract may name the amount of a particular plant component.

Ask a pharmacist about ingredient sources, sensitivities and possible medicine interactions. Review the full combination, not just one highlighted ingredient.

Read the ingredient differences
  1. Bromelain and papain are enzymes from different sources. A protease blend may contain several enzymes; check its source and activity information.
  2. Centella and boswellia are plant ingredients. Phase 2 contains centella; Phase 1 contains boswellia and bromelain.
  3. Milligrams tell you an ingredient’s weight, not its enzyme activity or how much of a selected plant compound an extract contains.
