How is fullness created?
The surgeon reshapes tissue you already have in the area.
A flap of skin and fat, usually from the upper buttock region, remains attached to its blood supply and is positioned beneath the lifted skin.

Body Contouring
A buttock auto-augmentation lift reshapes sagging buttocks by lifting loose skin and repositioning your own attached tissue to improve contour and fullness.

Is this a Brazilian butt lift?
No. Auto-augmentation uses attached tissue rather than injected fat.
A Brazilian butt lift transfers fat removed by liposuction. Implants are another separate approach. Ask exactly what your surgeon means by auto-augmentation.
Who might consider it?
Someone with loose buttock skin and enough local tissue to reshape.
Suitability depends on tissue quality, health, weight stability, scar preferences and a surgeon's examination.
01 · Overview
A buttock lift removes excess skin and raises sagging tissue. Auto-augmentation adds a reshaping step: tissue that might otherwise be removed is preserved as an attached flap, folded or repositioned, and secured beneath the remaining skin.
This approach redistributes existing tissue rather than adding an implant or injecting harvested fat. Available tissue limits how much fullness can be created. It may be discussed on its own or as part of a broader lower body lift after substantial weight loss.
The plan should balance skin removal, projection, scar position and safe healing. A lift cannot reliably eliminate cellulite or every surface irregularity, and recovery depends on the extent of surgery and your health. [1]
Surgeons may use terms such as autologous augmentation or flap augmentation. These can describe different designs. Ask whether the plan uses attached tissue, injected fat, implants or a combination, and have each part explained.
A standard lift mainly removes loose skin and raises tissue; it can sometimes leave the buttocks looking flatter. Auto-augmentation is intended to preserve and reposition local tissue for added shape, but the amount of projection is limited.
02 · Concerns & Goals
Weight changes, aging or naturally thin tissue can leave the buttocks looking flatter or feeling loose. Your surgeon can assess which changes this operation may address.
Hanging or folded skin may be uncomfortable or make clothing fit unevenly. A lift addresses skin excess, with a permanent scar as the tradeoff.
Flattening after weight loss may respond to local tissue reshaping when enough usable tissue remains.
A surgeon can assess drooping and differences between sides. Some asymmetry usually remains.
Loose skin may extend beyond the buttocks. A wider body-contouring plan may be needed, rather than expecting a buttock-only procedure to address every area.
03 · Options
The best plan depends on where skin is loose, how much tissue is available and how much scarring you are comfortable accepting.

Combines skin removal with reshaping of attached local tissue.
Focuses on excess skin rather than added projection.
Addresses buttock sagging along with excess skin around the lower trunk.
Separates lifting and any further volume treatment into different operations.
General buttock and body-lift guidance explains the differences between lifting and augmentation. Your surgeon should explain the specific flap design and risks of the proposed auto-augmentation technique. [1] [2].
Liposuction removes fat, not excess skin. When skin has poor elasticity, fat removal alone may make looseness more noticeable.
Sometimes, but combining operations increases surgical scope and may lengthen recovery. If fat transfer or implants are proposed, they need a separate discussion of benefits, alternatives and risks.
04 · Results
The goal is a lifted contour with fullness created from existing tissue.
Early swelling and tightness do not show the final contour.
Results can last, but your body continues to change.
General buttock-lift guidance describes gradual settling, permanent scars and the effects of weight changes on long-term results. [1]
05 · Recovery
Returning to work does not mean fully healed. Follow your surgeon’s instructions; strenuous activity requires clearance.
Recovery depends on the flap design, incision length and any additional procedures. Your team should provide individualized instructions for positioning, wound care and activity.
Step 1 · Day of surgery
After anesthesia, the team monitors pain, circulation and wounds. You may have dressings or drains. The extent of surgery and your health determine whether you go home or stay for monitoring.
Step 2 · First days
Expect soreness, swelling and limited mobility. Arrange help with daily tasks and follow your team's plan for gentle movement, pressure protection and prescribed medicines.
Step 3 · Following weeks
Follow-up visits guide drain removal, wound care and activity increases. Returning to work does not mean the incisions or deeper tissues are fully healed.
Step 4 · Following months
Swelling and firmness gradually improve. Your surgeon checks healing and advises when scar care, exercise and unrestricted pressure are appropriate.
Your surgical team's instructions take priority over general timelines. Ask before using pressure cushions, compression garments or other recovery aids.

Possibly. Drain use and garment selection depend on the operation. Your team should explain fit, wear time, drain care and when to call; avoid buying or applying tight garments without guidance.
Discuss this before surgery. You may need leave, shorter work periods or approved position changes. A return-to-work date should reflect your actual duties and healing, not just pain tolerance.
06 · Safety
Soreness, swelling, bruising, tightness and temporary changes in skin sensation can occur. These should generally improve; new, severe or worsening symptoms need assessment.
Blood or fluid can collect beneath the skin and may require drainage or another procedure.
An incision may become infected or open, requiring dressings, medicines or further surgery.
Skin or reshaped fat may heal poorly or die, causing firm areas, drainage or tissue loss.
Scars may widen or become raised. Numbness, sensitivity or persistent pain can occur.
Asymmetry, flattening, recurrent sagging or contour irregularities may remain. Revision may be considered.
Clots in the legs or lungs and serious reactions related to anesthesia are possible and can be life-threatening.
Discuss these risks and your individual health history with your surgeon. [3]
07 · Costs
Compare written estimates for the same planned scope: a buttock auto-augmentation lift alone is different from a lower body lift or staged surgery. Ask which services are included and which are billed separately.
Surgeon
Surgeon's services for the planned lift and tissue reshaping.
Ask your surgeonConfirm the areas treated, combined procedures and policies for revision care.
Facility
Anesthesia services, operating-room use and any planned monitored stay.
Ask your surgeonAsk whether these are separate bills and how an overnight stay affects the estimate.
Supplies
Potential expenses for garments, dressings, medicines and postoperative visits.
Ask your surgeonConfirm what is included and how additional wound care or unplanned visits are billed.
TRC
Any separately listed coordination or support services.
Ask TRCAsk what each service includes, whether it is optional and whether it carries a separate charge.
Your written estimate should explain the services included, any separate charges, and payment terms.
08 · Questions
Not in flap-based auto-augmentation itself. Your own attached tissue provides the fullness. Any proposed implant would be a separate part of the plan.
Incisions commonly run across the upper buttocks and may extend toward the hips or around the lower trunk. Placement varies; ask your surgeon to draw the expected scar pattern.
The amount of augmentation may be modest, or this technique may not be suitable. Your surgeon can discuss a lift alone, other augmentation methods or no surgery.
No. It reshapes skin and soft tissue rather than treating excess body weight. A reasonably stable weight is important when planning surgery.
