Understanding Your Surgical Costs

What Is the Surgical Fee?

The surgical fee is the charge for the surgeon's professional services associated with your operation. Depending on the arrangement, it may include consultation, clinical planning, the procedure, and specified postoperative visits.

It may appear as a separate line or within a combined quote. It does not necessarily include anesthesia, facility charges, implants, or every expense surrounding surgery.

Surgical fee details

What May Be Included?

Consultation and evaluation

Reviewing your medical history, anatomy, concerns, desired results, and potential treatment options. Consultation charges may be separate or credited according to the surgeon's terms.

Clinical planning

Developing the proposed surgical approach and discussing alternatives, risks, limitations, and recovery considerations.

Performance of the procedure

The surgeon's time, expertise, and professional services in carrying out the operation.

Included follow-up

The postoperative examinations and professional follow-up specified in the surgeon's financial arrangement.

Confirm the actual scope in writing. A general description of a surgical fee does not establish what a particular surgeon includes.

TRC Surgical Estimate Review

TRC reviews available surgeon information and surgical estimates so patients can evaluate their options with a clearer view of professional qualifications, included services, and costs.

Within your selected Patient Services, TRC examines:

Consultation fees and credits
Whether the consultation is complimentary, charged separately, or credited toward the procedure, including any applicable conditions.
The quoted surgical fee
The professional services included in the estimate, expenses billed separately, and details requiring clarification.
Postoperative appointments
Which routine follow-up visits are included, the period they cover, and the financial policies for additional appointments.
Potential additional costs
Circumstances identified by the practice that could change the estimate or result in separate charges.
Revision and additional care policies
The practice's stated financial terms for revisions, complications, and unexpected care, including charges that may remain your responsibility.
Payment and cancellation terms
Required deposits, payment deadlines, rescheduling provisions, cancellations, and refund policies.

When you are considering multiple surgeons, TRC organizes available professional information, proposed services, and estimates for comparison. Your consulting surgeons explain the clinical differences between their proposed approaches.

Your dedicated Care Planner coordinates clarification requests with participating practices, follows through on outstanding financial questions, records information confirmed by the responsible provider, and identifies details still awaiting a response.

Patients independently select their surgeon. Each independent surgeon and practice establishes its professional fees and financial policies and remains responsible for consultations, clinical recommendations, and determining surgical suitability. TRC provides the nonclinical review and coordination defined in your Patient Services arrangement.
