APR (annual percentage rate)
APR describes the yearly cost of borrowing, including interest and certain fees. A lower APR usually means lower total cost, but compare it together with the term and any fees.

Two offers with the same monthly payment can cost very different amounts over time. This guide walks through the items worth comparing when you review potential financing options — in the TRC Finance Center or with any lender.

A longer term lowers the monthly payment but usually raises the total interest you pay. A shorter term raises the monthly payment but can lower total cost.
Confirm the payment fits your budget with room to spare — not just today, but through the full term.
Understand the total you would repay
Review the lender’s stated total of payments, alongside any required fees paid separately. Do not add fees again if they are already included in that total.
For equal monthly payments, multiplying the payment by the number of payments shows the scheduled repayment total. If payments vary or promotional terms apply, use the lender’s written payment schedule.
Ask about origination, application, prepayment or late fees, and whether fees are deducted from the amount you receive or added to the balance.
A fixed rate stays the same for the life of the loan. A variable rate can change, which can raise your payment later.
If you can pay early without penalty, you can reduce total interest. Some agreements charge for paying off early.
Lender programs may limit which procedure, facility or recovery charges are eligible. Confirm what the approved amount can pay for.
The TRC Finance Center lists published APR and term ranges side by side with estimated illustrations, so you can practice this comparison before any application. Individual rates apply — lenders set your actual terms.
TRC provides patient planning and coordination support. TRC is not a lender, and lender programs determine eligibility, rates, fees and repayment terms — individual rates apply. Nothing on this page is a financing offer, approval or financial advice.
