Laser. Radiofrequency.
Some energy-based devices are used for particular skin or contour goals. Mild laxity is different from excess hanging skin. A treatment intended to tighten or change skin appearance does not cut out skin and is not a replacement for surgical removal of large folds.
What to know
- Laser and radiofrequency are technology names, not one treatment. Ask about the exact device, authorized body area, intended use and evidence for the proposed change.
- Results vary and may be temporary. Session counts, limitations and risks depend on the device and person; burns and skin injury are possible.
- RF microneedling penetrates skin and differs from noninvasive RF. FDA has reported serious complications with certain aesthetic uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. Discuss specific risks with a licensed, trained professional.
